Reef Life Survey Canada
Lead for RLS Canada dive team + RLS trainer
I co-launched the Canadian branch of Reef Life Survey with Dr. Amanda Bates (October 2018) in Newfoundland, Canada. Since then, I have led our team of local divers and spearheaded survey efforts on the east and west coast of Canada. Between 2018 - 2022, I have led >90 surveys across Newfoundland and British Columbia, and monitored 5 time-series sites in Newfoundland (annual surveys: 2018-2022). We also run an annual survey blitz on the west coast (Barkley Sound, Vancouver Island), hosted through the Bamfield Marine Science Centre (BMSC).
In my role as the RLS Canada lead, I plan, coordinate and run dive surveys, process and manage our data, and write grants.
I am recognized as one of 13 Reef Life Survey trainers globally, and train divers in the strictly standardized method (https://reeflifesurvey.com/meet-the-team/). I have trained new RLS Canada divers in Newfoundland and British Columbia.
To date (May 2022), I have trained 7 RLS divers: Valesca de Groot & Brandy Bigger (Newfoundland, 2020); Em Lim & Siobhan Gray (Bamfield, 2021); Dr. Isabelle Cote, Dr. Kieran Cox and Claire Attridge (Bamfield, 2022).

I respectfully acknowledge that the lands and waters in which I work, dive, play and learn are in the traditional territories of the Huu-ay-aht and Tseshaht First Nations (Barkley Sound, B.C.) and unceded, ancestral homelands of the Beothuk and the Mi'kmaq (island of Ktaqmkuk; Newfoundland).
